Spring break is almost over. School starts again on Monday. Kevin and I have enjoyed a fun week at home. He flew in from VA last Friday, and we went to visit his mother in MS for the weekend. I always enjoy visiting her. This trip was no exception. We went to the symphony Saturday evening after a delicious dinner at Harvey's. This was my first symphony, and I loved it! I wish I had a musical talent. I really admire musicians and vocalist. We went to mass Sunday morning at St. James. Father Henry had lunch with us at the Tupelo Country Club afterward. It was one of the best meals I've had in Tupelo. I especially like Father Henry. He's so down to earth. He really makes me feel like he struggles just like the rest of us do. We got to meet Lacy, the newest pet in the Riley family. She's a cutie. Seeing Chelsea and Lacy interact really reminds me of Biscuit and Birdie, only they're much smaller. Lacy is a lot like Biscuit, always creating chaos and getting in trouble. Chelsea is real prim and proper like Birdie. Kevin's mother gave us our Easter "baskets." Mine was a really cute beach bag with Bath and Bodyworks stuff in it. Kevin's was a rotating tie rack. Then she gave both of us some crystal glasses that have been in her family for over 100 years. Kevin and I are the 4th generation to have them. We left them at her house though until we can get a place to store them. I'm just so afraid they'll break. She understood. Poor thing, she is so terribly ill this week. She has been at home, miserable, in the bed. We've been calling to check in on her and neighbors have been taking care of her.
Kevin and I have been working in the yards this week. He has been working on the grass...edging, cutting, fertilizing, etc...and pressure washing the driveway and patio. He's so proud of his pressure washer. I've been planting some flowers. So far, I have planted petunias in the front beds, red geraniums in planters on the front porch, and hibiscus in planters on the back porch. I've got to finish planting yellow and orange marigolds in the window boxes. Then I've got just a few more things I want to plant. We're gonna redo the flowerbed in the backyard. We're working on a plan for that. Kevin found my weeding tool. It's my favorite toy. I love to pick the weeds out of the yard with it. We really don't have any weeds, but I like to pick them around the borders of the yard.
You know the commercial that goes..."Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!" I think I married State Farm. In the past 24 hours, literally, Kevin has loaned one neighbor our lawn mower and pressure washer and another neighbor our truck, pressure washer, and blower. We don't really mind it so much. We actually find it quite humorous. The first neighbor actually used the pressure washer while it was hooked up to our water spigot. The second neighbor brought the truck back in immaculate condition with a tank full of gas. We just keep looking at it as our social justice project.
We played nine holes of golf today. I still play horribly. Today I was not a good sport. I'm surprised that Kevin did not leave me on the course alone. I straightened up by about the 6th hole though. He's gonna be the most patient father. I just need to play more. I love it when I'm doing ok. I just put so much pressure on myself. Maybe I'll go play at the country club more often even when Kevin is out of town. That's the problem, I don't practice enough. I know I wasn't any fun for him today. I feel so bad about that. I promised him I'll do better next time.

Sleep at last,
Boy, did I sleep late last weekend! I got up to see KJ off to his "man party" on the golf course, then I napped on the couch until about 11:30. The only reason I got up then was because I'd promised Kevin I would pick up some copies for him at the UPS store before 1:00. I took a shower, but I didn't even fix my hair or make-up. That is SO NOT LIKE ME! I just put the hair up in an extremely short ponytail with a ball cap. I didn't look bad, just not as colorful and lively as possible. Well, I should have known something was wrong when I napped for such a long time to begin with. I watched the Oscars Sunday night (loved Jamie Fox's acceptance speech for Ray) but by Monday morning I had a terrible cold, stuffy nose, terrible pounding headache, cold in my eyes. I was so tired and achy I couldn't sleep. I didn't have any fever, though. I had a field trip on Tuesday; part of it was outside in the cold. When I got home at 3:30 Tuesday, I went straight to bed. I slept the entire afternoon and night. Only waking to answer the phone. Kevin was just as sick in VA all week. I'm just glad he had Kristy up there to take care of him. I'm feeling better now, but he's still pitiful. Poor baby! I'm so glad he's home. Fixed him a good dinner and tucked him in. Biscuit and Birdie are keeping him company.
